Center receives award for art exhibit brochure

The West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center was recently honored with an Award of Excellence from the Tennessee Association of Museums (TAM). Accepting the award for its "Two Sides to Every Story" art exhibit brochure is Sonia Outlaw-Clark, director of the Center. The award was presented by TAM President Adam Alfrey at award ceremonies held March 19, 2014, in Greeneville, Tenn.

The West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center recently received an Award of Excellence from the Tennessee Association of Museums (TAM) during its annual conference in Greeneville, Tenn.
The award recognized the Center for a brochure highlighting the 2013 art exhibition "Two Sides to Every Story." The exhibit showcased the work of Memphis artist John Sadowski and featured realism and abstract works. The realism work depicted regional landmarks and points of interest.
The organization's annual Awards Banquet was held at Greeneville's historic General Morgan Inn March 19. Attendees visited the Andrew Johnson historic sites and the Dickson Williams Mansion prior to the award ceremony held on the hotel terrace.
Founded in 1960, TAM fosters communication and cooperation between museums, cultural societies and other members in order to keep the public informed on the importance of understanding and preserving Tennessee's cultural, historical and scientific heritage. Director earns TMP, FEP certifications

Sonia Outlaw-Clark, director of the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center, has earned certification as a “Travel Marketing Professional” (TMP) after completing the three-year program of the Southeast Tourism Society (STS) Marketing College.

Clark was one of 47 new TMPs recognized at the STS spring meeting in Atlanta, Ga., Tuesday, March 19.  STS Marketing College started in 1992, and 749 people have earned TMP certification. Clark was also recognized and presented a certification in festival and event planning.

The STS Marketing College is a professional development program that for one week each summer turns the facilities of North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, Ga., into a laboratory to teach tourism marketing.

Instructors are working professionals in the travel industry such as convention and visitors bureau executives, public relations practitioners, sales and marketing consultants and research experts.

Union City Resident Honored for Museum Work

Sonia Outlaw-Clark presents Hugh Wade with a commendation for his extensive volunteer work with the Obion County Museum in Union City, Tennessee. The award was issued by the Tennessee Association of Museums (TAM) during its annual conference held March 23-25. Clark is the West Tenn. At-Large Representative for TAM.

Union City, Tenn., resident Hugh Wade was honored March 28, 2011, at a meeting of the Obion County Museum board of directors. Sonia Outlaw-Clark, the West Tennessee representative for the Tennessee Association of Museums (TAM) and the director of the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center, presented Wade a commendation issued to the local museum earlier this month at a state meeting.

Wade has put three years of work into a  military history exhibit now on display at the museum. Visitors can view the exhibit at the Obion County Museum, 1004 Edwards Street, Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4 p.m., and by appointment (731-885-6774). The military exhibit features thousands of items collected and catalogued by Wade.

The exhibit will also be available for viewing Saturday, May 21, during "Day at the Museum." There will be lots of outdoor family activities on this day as well.
